I'd like to start with a little story about how "Nathan & Corri" came to be. I actually owe it all to my best friend, TeriDel (Gibbens) Davis. She was the first one to spot Nathan in a class at Eastern Arizona College and notice how cute he is and what a great smile he has (see picture below). Turns out Nathan had noticed her, too, and decided to ask her to the Homecoming dance. (Ok, quit judging me and keep reading...I would never steal my best friend's boyfriend. :D)
TeriDel was so excited that this insanely good looking guy had asked her to the dance and raved to us, her best friends, about what a good time they would have. At the dance I met Nathan for the first time and agreed right away that he was insanely good looking. But of course I wasn't interested because he was on a date with my best friend.
The next morning I went over to
TeriDel's house to find out all of the details of the date she had been so excited about. But to my dismay,
TeriDel was less than enthusiastic about telling how the evening had gone. After much prodding she finally told us that for "some reason" they just hadn't hit it off. She said she had a good time but she didn't think he was someone she would like to pursue any further. And with that, seeing as
TeriDel and I are usually interested in the same types of guys, the very short Nathan & Corri Story came to an end.
Just kidding...of course it didn't end like that! But it did take a long intermission. The next semester, nearly six months later, Nathan decided to move out of the dorms and into a house with five other guys, most of whom I was friends with. I was frequently at the house where he now lived, visiting with my friends and therefore was around Nathan on a regular basis. However, I didn't realize that he was the shy type, and still being immature and fresh out of high school, I assumed that he was stuck up rather than shy. In my experience, really good looking guys that wouldn't talk to me were stuck up. So I brushed him off time and time again, thinking I wouldn't give him the opportunity to do the same to me. Until...
One day, while I was about to leave after visiting my friends at his house, I made the rounds giving hugs to my friends (I'm a
huggy kind of person). The guys, Ben, Jeremy, Nathan and Vernon, all sat in that order on the couch. I proceeded to give Ben a hug, then Jeremy and then skip right over Nathan to Vernon and give him a hug. At that moment, Nathan was tired of me brushing him off and took matters into his own hands. "Where's my hug?!?" he said to me. In my head I thought, "Oh great, the stuck up guy wants a hug". So I gave him a half-hearted hug and left.
After that day, we started getting to know each other a bit better, but I was unwilling to change my opinion of him. Spring Break rolled around and we found out we were both planning a trip to Mesa, AZ the same weekend with some friends. Nathan suggested that we travel together in case my car broke down or something. I brushed him off again, making some excuse about not needing to caravan with him and left.
Later I went to see my mom at work and told her about how this "ridiculous stuck up guy" offered to travel with us to Mesa in case my car broke down and that I had turned him down. My mom scolded me saying that my car was very old and having a couple of guys around would be helpful if it had any problems. She then made me call him and ask if I could still travel with him to Mesa.
We went to Mesa, ended up hanging out all day and that gave me the opportunity to see his awesome personality. His great sense of humor, spontaneity, sweetness, spirituality and all the other wonderful qualities he has eventually made me fall madly in love with him and decide to become his eternal companion, Mrs. Nathan David Coons. Oh yeah, and we lived happily ever after.
